Job Outlook Improves for Most Historians

Job prospects for most types of historians are improving, according to the American Historical Association.

The association reports that job listings in the September through December 1998 issues of its Perspectives newsletter were up 13 per cent over the same period in 1997. The increase is largely a result of faculty retirements and is the largest jump since the early 1990s, said Robert B. Townsend, the newsletter's editor.

"We've been seeing steady growth for the
