Job Market Unchanged by More Retirements

To the Editor:

The Chronicle represents a unique forum for a dialogue on the aging of university faculty members, and I commend you for publishing an article on this important phenomenon. However, I am concerned that the average reader of "The Imminent Surge in Retirements" (March 17) might erroneously conclude that the doors of academe are about to burst open as hordes of gray-haired professors shuffle through on the way to retirement.
