Job Market Improves for Historians, and Competition Stiffens for Senior Scholars
The job market for historians continued to improve in the 1998-99 academic year, as the number of job listings rose 10.6 percent over the year before, according to the American Historical Association.
The number of jobs listed with the association increased to 779 from 704 in 1997-98 -- the most opportunities in more than 10 years, reports the A.H.A., which held its annual meeting this month in Chicago.
The supply of jobs, however, is not keeping pace
