Jim Hayes, a University of Alaska regent who faces fraud charges with his wife for allegedly misusing federal money intended for a social-services center they were involved with, resigned his position on the Board of Regents on Friday, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported. Mr. Hayes had previously ignored pleas from the governor and several legislators to quit the board. —David L. Wheeler
