Jennifer Ruark directs reported coverage of ideas and research in The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle Review, and edits feature stories by writers across the newsroom.
From 1998 to 2003, she was senior editor of the research section, where she managed a team of reporters covering research and the business of university presses. Her own articles have included stories on architecture, history, literary studies, neuroscience, psychology, and publishing. She joined The Chronicle in 1996 as an assistant editor, commissioning essays from academics and freelance intellectuals. Before joining The Chronicle, Ruark spent three years as an acquiring editor at Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
She has also taught English in public schools in Iwata, Japan, and spent two years as a reporter covering environmental policy. Ruark graduated with honors from Swarthmore College and earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
