Japan Seeks to Promote Work Leading to Patents
Scientists at Japan's national universities would receive a greater financial incentive to work on projects leading to patents, under a government plan.
The proposal calls for the government to lift the ceiling of $60,000 that a professor at one of the national universities can receive for a patent. The plan is expected to be approved by cabinet ministers later this month and to take effect in 2002.
