Ivies Impose Limits on Athletics; Williams College Report Urges an Emphasis on Academics
Some of the country's top colleges are cracking down on jocks.
Williams College issued a report last month on the academic and social life of its athletes, and the Ivy League announced that it would reduce the number of football players that its colleges can recruit. The eight Ivies also will be required to give their athletes mandatory breaks from practice every year.
At present, the Ivy colleges are permitted to recruit up to 35 freshmen each year for their football teams.
