'Israel and the Bomb'
Avner Cohen faced an unusual problem with his new book, Israel and the Bomb (Columbia University Press; 470 pages; $27.50). How do you write a history of something that officially doesn't exist? The key word is "officially." While Israel has never officially acknowledged that it has nuclear weapons, it is widely accepted that it does.
