Is Anybody Else Out There?
Some academics believe that there is little scientific justification for thinking that life could be present on Mars or elsewhere outside of Earth. They claim that astrobiologists' use of this possibility to justify an expanded exploration program is at best exaggerated and misleading to the public, and at worst disingenuous.
But determining whether humans are alone in the universe certainly is of profound significance. This is the case whether we are thinking of the possible existence
