Irvine Beefs Up Its Dept. of Education; Controversial Chancellor Retires; a Provost Goes From California to the Persian Gulf
BACK TO SCHOOL: The University of California at Irvine is hiring top talent in its department of education in hopes of transforming it into an interdisciplinary school of education.
Three years ago, the department had seven tenure-track faculty members, bringing in less than $1-million a year in grant awards. Now it houses 20 faculty members, a one-year-old Ph.D. program, and receives $10-million annually in grants. Irvine also plans to add 14 faculty members in the next eight years,
