Iraqi Documents in California

To the Editor:

Kanan Makiya's claim that he "received the blessing of Iraq's deputy prime minister and of the prime minister's office" regarding the Iraq Memory Foundation's agreement with the Hoover Institution is not true ("Disputed Iraqi Records Find a Home at the Hoover Institution," The Chronicle, February 1). The offices of the prime minister and his deputy have asserted that neither man had any knowledge about the issue, let alone sanctioned the agreement.
