Internships for Pay, Credit, or None of the Above
To the Editor:
Ben Yagoda's "Will Work for Academic Credit" (The Chronicle, March 21) raises important issues about summer internships. I thank him for calling attention to an important educational inequity: that the children of the wealthy can afford to accept unpaid internships, while many others cannot. This is why the Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship provides substantial summer stipends to 45 fellows per summer.
However, a college or university need not, as Yagoda claims,
