Internet2 Project Plans Major Upgrades for Its Network Backbone
By SCOTT CARLSONOfficials at the Internet2 project have announced that Abilene, the project's high-speed network backbone, will get improvements over the next two years, making it able to carry more data and support more users.
Only about 30 percent of Abilene's capacity is used right now, but officials at Internet2 say the upgrades will accommodate heavier traffic in the future, as the network serves more institutions and more bandwidth-hogging
