Interest in Public-Service Jobs Surges Among College Seniors

Faced with lousy job prospects, graduating seniors are enrolling in record numbers in programs like the Peace Corps and Teach for America, The Boston Globe reports.

This year employers are likely to hire 22 percent fewer new graduates than they did from the Class of 2008, according to a recent survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. With once-lucrative jobs in fields like finance hit especially hard by the recession, more college seniors are attracted to public service, the Globe reports. Applications to graduate school are also on the rise.
