Intended Major Is Major Factor in Students' Choice of Colleges, Survey Finds

Most high-school seniors say their top concern in choosing a college is whether it offers their intended major, according to a report released today by Monster, the online career and recruitment company.

The report also says that high-school students prefer to communicate via the telephone, even though they are known for their use of networking Web sites, instant messaging, and text messaging.

To produce the report, Monster surveyed more than 2,000 students nationwide who are graduating from high school this spring. The report’s findings are similar to those of a report released last week by Eduventures, a higher-education consulting firm. —Elyse Ashburn
