Instructor Fired for Views on Gay Marriage Turns Elsewhere in Utah

A philosophy instructor who lost his job at Brigham Young University this summer after publicly assailing a constitutional amendment that would forbid gay marriage has got a new gig. Two of them, in fact.

According to an article in The Daily Herald, a newspaper in central Utah, Jeffrey Nielsen now teaches at both Westminster College and Utah Valley State College.

Brigham Young refused to renew Mr. Nielsen’s contract after he wrote a column for The Salt Lake Tribune that argued that opposing gay marriage is immoral (The Chronicle, June 14).

In the Daily Herald article, Mr. Nielsen said he had been “blown away” by the support he received after losing his job. And to judge from the positive comments of his new colleagues at Westminster and Utah Valley State, he seems to have found two new homes.
