Inspectors Get Award for Findings in Nelnet Case

The secretary of education, Margaret Spellings, has repeatedly defended her decision to let the National Education Loan Network, a major for-profit student-loan provider based in Nebraska, keep some $300-million in disputed federal student-loan subsidies.

One of her good friends, however, may have given critics in Congress some extra ammunition for their efforts to force the company, called Nelnet, to repay the money.
