Innocence of Duke Athletes

It is disappointing that Sara Lipka, your reporter, neglected to quote this significant statement of the North Carolina attorney general: "We believe these three individuals are innocent of these charges" ("Ordeal Ends for Duke Lacrosse Players," The Chronicle, April 20). Innocence was the central characteristic of the attorney general's report, but it is one that many people in American higher education have refused to acknowledge — emphasizing instead, as
