Inequalities of Wealth and Knowledge

Carlin Romano suggests that everyone, not only the elite, should be made aware of potential worst-case scenarios ("New Orleans and the Probability Blues," The Chronicle Review, September 23). Theoretically, I agree.
Practically, however, even though I am reasonably well read and keep up with the news, I am certainly not a decision maker. I'm not sure it would help me to know all the possible worst-case scenarios. It would be frightening. What happened in New
