Indonesian Rector Assassinated in Aceh
The rector of a state university in Indonesia was shot and killed by unknown assailants this month. Dayan Dawood, 55, was head of Syiah Kuala University, the largest institution in Aceh, a troubled province of four million people about 1,100 miles northwest of Jakarta.
His death came three days after he offered to mediate a resolution to a separatist conflict that is devastating the province. He is the second rector assassinated in Aceh in the past year.
