Indictment in Korean Stem-Cell Scandal
Woo Suk Hwang, the South Korean scientist who led a stem-cell research team to produce findings that were later determined to be fabricated, was charged this month with fraud, bioethics violations, and embezzling some $3-million. If convicted of the charges, he could spend as much as 10 years in prison. Five members of his research team face lesser charges, according to newspaper reports.
