Indiana U. Professor to Take Leave, Citing Death Threat Over His Criticism of Coach

Murray Sperber is not an easy man to scare.

But the Indiana University professor, who made national headlines this year for criticizing the Hoosiers' men's basketball coach, Bob Knight, says he won't teach this fall, after receiving a death threat and harassing telephone calls to his home from the coach's supporters. He initially announced plans to take an unpaid leave, but the university is considering him for a research grant.
