Indian Students Protest Plan to Raise Quotas

Escalating student protests in five Indian states have raised fears that India's affirmative-action debate could once again turn violent. The students are protesting a proposal to increase the number of seats reserved for lower-caste Indians in universities operated by the central government.

Some states have put their police forces on alert, in anticipation of violent protests.
