Indian Colleges Seek Land-Grant Status
Washington, D.C. -- A major effort is under way in Congress to give land-grant status to colleges and vocational institutes that are controlled by American Indian tribes.
If passed, the measure would represent the largest expansion of the land-grant program since 1890, when the second Morrill Act led to the creation of 17 historically black land-grant colleges.
