Inappropriate Behavior From a Professor

To the Editor:

Your article on the religious attitudes of today's students does an excellent job of calling attention to the new survey from the Higher Education Research Institute and to this often overlooked dimension of today's young-adult culture ("Most Freshmen Say Religion Guides Them," The Chronicle, April 22). But your analysis does not go far enough in examining either the nature of religious studies in the academy, or the directions that have emerged in recent years.
