In the Beginning Was the Word
An Igbo, an Udmurt, a Nangnda, and a Kurd stand on a hill northwest of Jerusalem. Behind them is the Beit Horon gas station. Before them are rounded hills and deep valleys, green with the grass and leaves left by the departing rains. The highway off to their right runs very close to the border between Israel and the West Bank, but it is not the current war that concerns them.
"You are looking down the Beit Horon Ascent, Ma'aleh Beit Horon in Hebrew," says their teacher, Daniel Herman.
