In Tweaking 1998 Higher Education Act, House Panel Heeds Colleges' Concerns
The House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce unanimously approved a bill last week that seeks to make some of the most unpopular provisions of the 1998 Higher Education Act more palatable to colleges and students.
The measure would, among other things, significantly reduce the number of students who would lose their eligibility for federal financial aid if convicted on drug-related charges. The bill would also ease a requirement on college dropouts to repay
