In Some State Budgets, Community Colleges Fare Better Than 4-Year Institutions
As the economy slowly starts to recover in some states, community-college officials have been pleasantly surprised this spring: Not only were they spared the deep cuts in their state appropriations that were common the past few years, but they actually received increases at the same time the budgets of their four-year counterparts were cut or given hardly any new money.
"I think it's our time," says J. David Armstrong, chancellor of the 28-college Florida Community College system.
