In Pre-Recess Flurry, Congress Acts on Visas, Student Loans, and Tax Credits
Congress took action on a variety of bills that affect higher education in the final hours of last year's session, with mixed results for college officials and students.
College leaders achieved some long-sought goals. For example, institutions won a reprieve from costly reporting requirements associated with the federal Hope and Lifetime Learning tax credits. Congress also expanded financial-aid programs for military veterans and residents of the District of Columbia.
