In Cost-Cutting Move, Auburn U. Transfers Police Force to City
Auburn University's police officers recently acquired new uniforms and a bigger jurisdiction.
In a move that will shave an estimated $400,000 from its budget in the first year, Auburn transferred its 33 sworn public-safety officers to the City of Auburn's police force on July 1.
"Eighty-four percent of our students live off campus and are policed by the city anyway," says Edward R. Richardson, interim president of the university.
