FLAWS IN VISA SYSTEM: Errors in the federal database that tracks foreign students and academic-exchange scholars at American colleges can take months or even years to correct, according to a Government Accountability Office report released in March. While many of the mistakes in the database -- the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, known as Sevis -- are minor, serious errors can put students "out of status," forcing them to file for reinstatement and pay another fee.
