Oregon Researchers Achieve Breakthrough in Cloning Primate Embryos for Stem-Cell Research
A team of American researchers has created cloned monkey embryos using a variation of the technique used to clone Dolly the sheep, and extracted stem cells from the early-stage embryos. The work raises expectations that a similar technique could be used to generate human embryonic stem cells that could be matched to individual patients and used to replace diseased or damaged tissue— an approach known as therapeutic cloning.
