Illinois Plans to Draw 70,000 Students to Distance Education by 2018
Just over a decade from now, administrators at the University of Illinois imagine their enrollment having doubled. They want another 70,000 students — about the same number now on the existing Chicago, Springfield, and Urbana-Champaign campuses.
The additional students would be from all over the world. They would be enrolled in Global Campus, a new distance-education institution. The plan is as ambitious as it is controversial.
