Illinois Bill Guards College Journalists
The Illinois legislature has approved a bill reaffirming the First Amendment rights of students working for college newspapers.
If the bill is signed into law by the state's governor, Rod R. Blagojevich, a Democrat, Illinois will become the only state besides California to provide special legislative safeguards to college newspapers. A similar law is pending in Oregon.
