INS Hires Consultant to Evaluate Fees Levied on Foreign Students
The Immigration and Naturalization Service hired KPMG Consulting this month to determine whether the $95 fee that the agency wants to charge foreign students to pay for a new visa-tracking system will cover the system's costs.
The audit will determine how much it actually costs to run the system, says Russell Bergeron, an INS spokesman. The INS is required to periodically review its fees, and, by law, the agency cannot charge more than the cost of providing a service.
