Hunger Strike Ends at U. of Miami, but Walkout Goes On

A hunger strike by janitors at the University of Miami who walked off their jobs nearly two months ago came to a partial end on Friday, The Miami Herald reported on Saturday. The labor strike—over efforts by the janitors’ union to win recognition by the contractor to which the university has outsourced janitorial work—continues (The Chronicle, March 3 and April 10). And the hunger strike will be replaced with 24-hour fasts by other janitors.
