Hunger Strike Ends at Birzeit University
Students at Birzeit University, in the West Bank, ended a hunger strike last week after 32 students being held by Palestinian Authority security forces were released.
The students and university officials hailed the release as a victory for Birzeit and attributed it to both public and behind-the-scenes efforts to obtain the students' freedom. The students had been arrested in the wake of an incident a week ago in which demonstrators threw stones at Lionel
