Human-Rights Groups Call for Release of Sri Lankan University Chief
Academics and human-rights groups have appealed for the release of the vice chancellor of Eastern University of Sri Lanka, who has been missing for more than a month.
Sivasubramaniam Raveendranath, 55, disappeared on December 15 while on his way to an academic meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital. The vice chancellor had moved from the embattled Batticaloa region to the relative safety of Colombo late last year after receiving death threats.
