Howard U. Names Former Baltimore Mayor as Law-School Dean; Leadership Dispute Besets New Journalism School at Hampton U.
BY POPULAR CHOICE: He's got name recognition and a Rolodex full of A-list politicians and other movers and shakers. That's one reason Howard University officials this month picked Kurt L. Schmoke, a former mayor of Baltimore, to head the university's law school.
"I think we've really hit a home run with this selection," says H. Patrick Swygert, president of the university and an alumnus of its law school.
