How, and Why, to Privatize Faculty-Development Funds
Faculty development is essential to every college and university. In my dozen years as a division head and dean, I watched money for development support beautiful projects. Examples included studying teaching techniques in theater and music that added new depth to the curriculum; trips to archives that produced interdisciplinary scholarly monographs; and work with community groups that improved local stewardship of the environment.
