How Much Should Academe Do for Professors Who Are Parents?
To the Editor:
Those of us who have been parents know that you lose sleep in the first few months of a newborn's life ("A Push to Help New Parents Prepare for Tenure Reviews," November 9). Losing sleep is hardly good preparation for academic research and publishing. Sometimes your time is so limited that all you can do is tend to the baby, your spouse, and your classes.
To me, this means that parents of newborns should receive extra time toward tenure. In the best of all
