Sloan Foundation gave Mary Ann Mason, dean of the graduate division at the University of California at Berkeley, a $420,000 grant in May to come up with ways to make the tenure track more accommodating to scholars with children. The foundation was attracted by Ms. Mason's research showing that babies have an impact on the careers of female scholars
