Housing Shortage in Boston Prompts City Officials to Call for More Dormitories
Many of Boston's college students have become the targets of local resentment once reserved for the British.
The source of the tension is an increasingly tight and expensive housing market, where the median monthly rent for a two-bedroom apartment has risen by 64 percent, to $1,350, in five years. Boston has a severe shortage of affordable housing, and some residents believe that the estimated 57,000 students who rent off-campus housing throughout the city
