House Votes to Ban Cloning, Rebuffing Amendments to Protect Research
To the disappointment of scientific associations, House Democrats joined ranks with Republicans last week to pass a bill that would ban all cloning of human embryos, soundly defeating amendments that would have protected embryonic cloning used for research.
Groups such as the Association of American Medical Colleges and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology had come out against the bill, sponsored by Rep. Dave Weldon, a Florida Republican.
