House Votes to Authorize $6.9-Billion in Spending on Technology Research
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill by voice vote last week that would authorize Congress to spend $6.9-billion over five years on basic information-technology research.
The bill, H.R. 2086, would nearly double the federal government's spending on information-technology research by 2004, compared with this year's spending.
About $155-million of the additional money would be authorized for a series of $1-million grants from the National Science Foundation for colleges
