House Republicans Agree on a Tentative Budget Plan
Republicans in the House of Representatives last week tentatively agreed on a new budget plan they hope will end their party's divisions and avoid a meltdown of the appropriations process this fall.
They aren't yet saying exactly how they'll do it. The plan, offered by the House Speaker, J. Dennis Hastert of Illinois, would moderate some, but not all, of the cuts that many in the G.O.P. originally supported
