House Passes Bill to Bolster Pell Grants
The U.S. House of Representatives approved emergency-spending legislation last month that would add $1-billion to the Pell Grant Program. The money is seen as a much-needed stopgap measure for the program, which suffered an unexpected $1.3-billion shortfall in the 2002 fiscal year when more students applied for the grants than the Education Department had expected.
