House Panel Rejects Clinton Budget Proposals for NSF and AmeriCorps
Congressional Republicans voted last week for a spending plan that makes no provision for the large budget increases President Clinton requested for the National Science Foundation and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the 2001 fiscal year.
The House of Representatives Appropriations Committee also declined to finance the president's AmeriCorps national-service program.
Rejecting the pleas of Democrats to use money for research rather than planned tax cuts,
