House Panel Backs Increases for NSF and NASA
A House of Representatives Appropriations subcommittee last week approved a spending bill that would sharply increase the budgets of the National Science Foundation and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, two agencies that did not fare well in President Bush's budget request.
With little fuss, the Subcommittee on Veteran Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, and Independent Agencies voted to raise spending on the N.S.F. by 9 percent, to $4.84-billion. President Bush
