House Panel Approves 2005 Spending Plan
The maximum Pell Grant award would remain steady at $4,050, and the budget for the National Institutes of Health would increase by $727-million, or 2.6 percent, under a spending bill for the 2005 fiscal year approved by the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee last month.
Funds for the Perkins Loan Program, which provides low-cost loans to disadvantaged students, would be reduced by 60 percent, or $99-million, to $67-million.
